Things sure are changing in the water-heating department. The standard water heater is a large tank that can only heat one tank of water at a time. Often homes with a smaller water heater of this type need to “wait for hot water” after much use. Sediments tend to buildup on the bottom of the tank causing the efficiency of heat transfer to reduce over a period of time.

Tankless water heaters were introduced as a way to gain hot water faster. However, tankless heaters are activated by the flow of water through its coils, which means when the faucet is opened and then closed the heating process has to restart. Due to the low pressure of the process, the coils are likely to fill up with scale build-up ultimately causing the exchanger to fail.
